More info for the Honda "H" Decals: Center Caps: RED H / Chrome backing [Tecno wheel]
THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL APPLY TO ALL DIE CUT DECALS WE SHIP. PLEASE READ THEM ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM. OBVIOUSLY, NOT EVEY STEP WILL APPLY IN THE SAME WAY TO A WINDSHIELD DECAL OR A SET OF WHEEL DECALS - PLEASE ENGAGE YOUR BRAIN BEFORE THIS DIY PROJECT.
WHAT IS A DIE CUT DECAL?
Each decal is a part with several layers - here we dissect them for you:
1. Application / Pre-Mask Transfer Tape:
Application Tape / Pre-Mask is the Clear Tape or Semi Transparent Paper Tape that is applied to the TOP of your decal that makes multiple letters or layers stay together. It is necessary for this Mask to be Applied to make decals easier to install. This TOP Layer is to be removed LAST after application.
2. Die Cut Decal:
This is the actual Adhesive Graphic or Lettering that you have purchased. It is sandwiched between the Application Tape and the Heavy Wax Paper Backing. The decal is what ends up installed to the surface.
3. Wax Paper Backing:
The Backing is the Heavy Wax Paper Bottom Layer that is applied to the “Sticky” side of the decal. This backing keeps the decal from sticking to anything prior to install.
WHAT YOU NEED FOR A CLEAN INSTALL:
Lint Free Cloth or Towel [For Cleaning & Drying the Application Surface]
Credit Card, Driver's License or Similar Type Object
Roll of Masking Tape
SURFACE COMPATIBILITY CHECK:
The surface you are applying these too should be hard, flat or only slightly curved and Non-Porous like a typical wheel spoke/rim. If your wheel is porous, you have a different problem.
Surface Temperature / Weather Conditions:
Adequate surface temperature and weather conditions are necessary before attempting to install a decal or they will not stick properly.
The Surface Temperature must be between 60°F [15.5°C] and 90°F Degrees [32°C], with 70°F [21°C] to 80°F Degrees [26.5°C] being the Ideal Range.
The surface your are applying the decal too MUST BE completely clean and free of any dust, oils, wax or other debris and completely dry before Installation. If you're applying the decal to glass, we recommend using Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol to clean the area the decal is being applied to. If you are using Windex or another Ammonia-Based Cleaner to clean the surface, dry the area completely before applying the decal; the Ammonia interferes with the Adhesive. THIS IS A BAD THING. Any surface contamination such as bad bodywork, rust, dust or other debris will show through and spoil your final result.
Please do not apply decals in the rain or when it is snowing. Decals must be kept absolutely dry until installed.
Try to avoid installing decals in direct sunlight. Surface temperatures in direct sunlight often change rapidly and are difficult to judge.
Make sure there is no wind present. Wind or gusts may cause a problem when installing windshield size decals.
OK, LETS DO IT:
you prepare the surface on the car that will be receiving the deal as detailed above, lay the decal on a flat smooth surface like a table with the Transfer Tape facing upwards. Rub over the entire decal firmly using your hands or any object like a Credit Card. This will help make sure that your decal will stay adhered to the Top Layer when being peeled away from the Paper Backing.
When applying decals, it may be necessary to first tape the decal to the area you are applying it to to check the alignment. Use small pieces of Masking Tape on the Upper Corners to hold it in place where you want to apply your decal. Line up your decal and make sure it is straight.
Once desired position is achieved; Use a long piece of Masking Tape to go along the top edge of the decal; with half the tape on the decal and the other half on the surface your are applying the decal too. Flip the decal up using the Masking Tape you applied along the top as a hinge and carefully
peel the Paper Backing away Exposing only the Top Half of the decal. Leave the Bottom Half with the Paper Backing still attached to the decal for protection.
This is when you MIGHT want to give the area a squirt of soapy water - especially IF you think you might need to adjust the position of the decal. Decals can be more easily moved around when there is a thin layer of soapy water between them and the surface they are being applied too - HOWEVER, remember that this will increase drying time, and that all of it must be removed when you squeegee out the bubbles for the decals to actually stick to the car.
Holding the bottom of your decal away from the surface, Use a Credit Card or similar type object with an Even Edge and begin to Lightly put pressure on the decal EVENLY moving from the CENTER out towards the edges.
**This is your Big Opportunity to avoid bubbles and creases by going SLOWLY and applying pressure EVENLY**
Once you have all the Paper Backing removed from the decal, and the decal is on the surface; Use your Credit Card to firmly smooth out or remove any bubbles. Work Bubbles from the center to the outer edges of the decal. Firmly go over the entire decal, smoothing it out and ensuring that your decal has properly been adhered to the surface. You do not want your decal peeling off with the Transfer Tape, so make sure you have gone over the entire decal using firm pressure.
Note that decals have a Pressure Sensitive Adhesive, the harder you rub the harder it sticks, also the longer you let it sit the stronger the adhesive will adhere.
After you are happy with the position and your bubble removing technique, start from the Top Right-Hand Corner [but any corner is fine] and SLOWLY pull away the Transfer Tape at a sharp angle (sharper is better). Keep peeling until all the Transfer Tape is removed. Remember to go SLOWLY to avoid tearing the tape or lifting the decal off the surface. If part of the decal wants to come up with the Tape, place the decal back so the part that was not sticking is back on the surface. Use your hand to Firmly Rub the decal back on the surface. WAIT A FEW MINUTES. Then, slowly peel away and continue removing the Transfer Tape. If the decal still does not adhere, go watch TV and then try it again.
After the Transfer Tape has been removed, you may find that you still have a few SMALL bubbles. That's OK, they will disappear on their own after a week or two. If you find that you have a large bubble you MAY want to prick it with the tip of a straight pin and get the rest of the air out as they tend not to go away on their own.
READ IT ALL AND YOU'RE PANICKING?
If you have never installed a Die Cut Decal before and after reading these installation instructions, you still aren't comfortable with installing your decals, take them to your local sign shop or vehicle detailing shop and they will professionally install them for you.
After application, do not wash your vehicle for at least 1 Week
to allow the adhesive to set and ensure proper adhesion. The higher the temperature the shorter the drying time.
HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR DECALS:
Always clean your decals with a Non Abrasive Cleaner. Some fancy Wheel Cleaning products MAY remove your decals too along with the brake dust. I have not tested all wheel cleaners - when in doubt, use soapy water.
Take care when waxing your vehicle. Wax buildup around your decal may cause the edges or your decal to lift.
Never hold a High Pressure Washer Nozzle or Heat Gun close to or directly on your decal for longer than a few seconds unless you want to remove them.
If your decal is applied to glass and you need to use an ice scraper, scrape and clear the glass around your decal. Do not scrape over the decal. It may cause the edges or your decal to lift.
HOW TO REMOVE YOUR DECALS:
On Glass Surfaces: Use a Single Edge Razor Blade to remove the decal. It is best to do this when Temperatures are between 70°F [21°C] and 80°F [26.5°C] Degrees.
On Painted Surfaces: Use a Heat Gun or Hair Dryer to warm the decal until it peels off easily.
All adhesion or installation related issues are assumed to be the fault of improper conditions (ie it is too cold out) or other INSTALLER RELATED errors. PLEASE READ the info provided above to help you do it right so you will be happy with the result. We will not refund your $ or replace a decal that does not "install properly". All of these decals are "fresh" and will work great for you IF
you install them according to our directions above. Also, I count them all before they are shipped - don't send me an e-mail and tell me I only sent you 3 of the RAYS or VOLK stickers because you screwed up the install and want a free replacement one.
