Track swaybars [ fits '91+ ]

Track swaybars Details:

Dali Racing's new line of street swaybars for 2007 has been redesigned to be symmetric from left to right (tweaked to hopefully fit all years of the NSX and most* exhaust configurations in one shape) making their effects on the suspension equal side to side, (like our Trophy Bars for the race track) but with enough of a bend in them to allow the retention of the OEM catalytic converters for all you tree hugging liberals out there that believe in the urban myth of man made Global Warming.

Dali Racings new Adjustable Anti-Sway Bars are Superior for the following reasons - plus they are the only ones you can get now.

  • new design should fit all years of the NSX.
  • hollow DOM bar stock = the most stiffness with the least weight
  • increased wall thickness = STIFFER and STRONGER
  • equally adjustable front and rear. (3 hole)
  • symmetric design insures equal load transfer side to side.
  • integrated positioning collar design eliminates lateral bar shift and insures equal length bars on each corner at all times.
  • available in 3 diameters - mix and match to suit your driving style and application!
0.75"
front = 160% increase over stock
rear = 180% increase over stock
0.875"
front = 280% increase over stock
rear = 320% increase over stock
1.0"
front = 450% increase over stock
rear = 520% increase over stock

stiffness increases calculated over OEM 1992 coupe swaybar set

Dali's new bars are length adjustable for fine tuning the feel (3 front & 3 rear drop link mounting position adjustable) allowing for lots of different combinations for adjusting the under/oversteer bias to your preferred choice, tires, suspension etc - HOWEVER, the drop link position adjustment is a fine tuning adjustment only, on the level of 1psi of tire air pressure or 1-2 "clicks" on a 16 way adjustable shock - if you want more adjustment - see below.

We have tuned the bar diameter & wall thickness to take away the built in understeer that the car ships with (JMO-YMMV) when installed in pairs of the SAME diameter front and rear with the OEM spring rates and suspension tuning. You will also have a quicker "feel" at normal road speeds with any suspension setup that maintains the OEM front/rear balance (TEIN RA, RE, Flex, Mono Flex, Buddy Club, JIC, HKS, Bilsteins or Konis with Eibach/H&R/Dali/Comptech lowering springs, etc.). Those of you with JDM Type-R suspensions or Comptech Pro setups etc may have different wants and needs - hence our new mix and match option:

If you want a larger front/rear difference, in either under/oversteer modes you can now mix and match bar diameters! Think you can drive just like the RealTime guys? get the 1.0" bar in the front and the 0.75" bar in the back to go with your 1400lb/ft front springs. Want to be the local AutoX champ and turn the car on a peso? reverse that setup.

You need to know what you are doing though, the bars are not returnable once installed.

Manufactured exclusively for Dali Racing, all of our red powder-coated sway bar kits include Prothane poly bushing kits with their special waterproof no squeak goo & 2 swaybars in the flavor of your choice for a bolt-in installation, no modifications required except to your driving style.

*"most" means that you guys with the GruppeM exhausts might be SOL unless I think of something else.

DOM means:

  • Drawn Over Mandrel, or D.O.M., is a term applied to electric resistance welding tubing that has been finished by cold drawing through a die & over a mandrel.
  • Advantages of D.O.M. tubing include closer tolerances & a cold drawn surface finish as well as excellent wall uniformity.
  • D.O.M. tubing is widely used in the manufacturing of hydraulic cylinders where concentricity, close tolerances & good or honed surfaces are of importance.

Install notes

Due to the increased diameter of the Dali Racing swaybars compared to stock, what used to fit may not. Depending on the year and version (LHD vs RHD) of your NSX, and which bar diameter you get, there may be some small modifications needed to the battery tray and/or the passenger side rad hose bracket mounting tab. Typically the Street bars install in all years without any modifications. See pix below (Track bar illustrated).

The battery tray may need trimming/notching to varying degrees (or none on the older cars) and the rad hose mounting tab might need to be bent slightly for more hose clearance from the bar - make sure that you have at least 1/4in there.

FAQ

Q: OK, so which bar set should I pick?
A: The short version: If you are 99% a street driver and/or have a slushbox, or you live where the roads are crap, take a look at the Street swaybars. If you are mostly a street driver and just have an occasional track day per year, get the Street/Race swaybars. If your use pattern tends towards the opposite balance, you might consider the Track swaybars. If you are a crazed track rat get the Trophy bars. If you want more of a "Type-R" feel consider the Type-Q bar set. If you really really want a front bias like the Type-R, buy a front bar that is a larger diameter than the rear bar and get some stiffer springs like the Tanabe.

Q: OK, I just bought some swaybars, but I don't understand how they work. What hole is stiffer and what hole is looser?
A: A shorter bar is a stiffer bar.

Q: OK, so which hole should I pick?
A: Generally speaking, if you install the bars with the drop links in the middle hole you will be happy. That said, as we all know (and we all DO know this - right?) what tires you have and what other suspension components you have modified will affect the handling balance as well. I would not test the swaybar install on your favorite high speed corner without becoming familiar with the new balance & feel and how that reflects itself in the steering response etc.. There is no magic setting that will transform you into Alex Zanardi.

Q: My swaybars started to squeak, what can I do?
A: Any good synthetic grease (like what is supplied with the poly bushings when you bought them) will work fine. I like Mobil 1. The more water you drive through the faster it will "wash out".

Q: I have a set of the Type-R chassis bars installed already, and I want to get a set of your Street/Race or Track swaybars to complete the package, but they are are too BIG for everything to fit together, what can I do?
A: You might want to get a set of these.

Q: I don't like the red color, I want black like the OEM.
A: You might want to call your local powdercoat/paint shop.

FAQ: Suspensions

Q: OK, I've convinced myself that the OEM suspension on my NSX is flabby. What is the best suspension for me to get?
A: That depends on your projected use pattern and how tough your kidneys are. Most people really don't need a multi adjustable every which way "coilover kit" with a fancy name and a high price tag to drive back and forth to work or the local waxon-waxoff preening contest. A set of lowering springs and/or aftermarket shocks will do you. Remember that MOST aftermarket "OEM Replacement" springs and shocks (like Eibach and Bilstein for example) have lifetime warranties. That can be a good idea for those of you that will keep the car forever and/or live and drive in salty environments.

Those of you headed for the local track will be able to use the greater adjustment capability of a "height adjustable coilover kit" to tune the suspension for greater performance if you know what you are doing, and take the time to do it. Remember that all the TEIN, JIC, HKS, BUDDY CLUB, MOTON, KONI Pro Kit etc "coilover" kits have a 1 year warranty that coincidentally does not cover racing or crashing, and most of them do not like salt much either.. Something to think about...

Whichever way you decide to go, all of them will take care of the unsightly gap between the tire and the fender arch. They are not all the same however, and each one has a different ride and spring rate balance. Which setup is best for you is a matter of individual preference, and intended use. Most of the popular coilover kits and lowering spring sets are compared here.

Remember that lowering the car WILL reduce rear tire life due to that increasing the negative camber.

A: OKOKOK I can't make up my mind!! everyone tells me a different story! what should I buy?!?!?!?!
A: Unlike the Prime KIA's I can't tell you what to buy but I can tell you what I have. Our setups are listed here.

Q: OK, I just bought a really cool height adjustable & compression/rebound adjustable coil over kit, how do I pick the right adjustment?
A: If you adjust the coilover compression/rebound knob to somewhere in the middle of the range you probably will be happy. That said, as we all know (and we all DO know this - right?) what size wheels and tires you have and what other suspension and brake components you have replaced or modified will affect the handling balance as well due to their net weight compared to the OEM parts they replaced. If you select a set of lighter than OEM weight components you will be happier and can run softer settings than if you install a set of 14" brakes and 19"/20" rims because they "look cool" or some nutball on Prime told you they were da bomb. Suspension adjustments are best done at the track where you do not have to worry about oncoming traffic.

Q: How do I pick the right ride height?
A: READ THIS ALREADY.

Q: OK great, now I have the ultimate suspension or semi cool lowering springs or shocks etc installed but I don't know what Dali swaybar set to use with it - HELP!
A: click here.

I would not run out to immediately test your new suspension install on your favorite high speed corner without becoming familiar with the new balance & feel and how that reflects itself in the steering response etc.. Changes in ride height can affect high speed stability, so don't be testing the top speed limit without first testing the setup.

No matter what your favorite Prime Guru might say, there is no magic setting or combination of parts that will transform you into Alex Zanardi in a weekend.

Install notes2

FYI the Track Sway bar on the rear (2000 NSX) rubs up against the rear Cat (OEM) Yea, my 0.875" Street/Track bar cleared fine, but the 1" doesn't clear without spacers.

Picture is worth a thousand words, but apparently the bar rubbing prevented the exhaust assembly from flexing and on the track I developed a hairline crack "somewhere" (could definitely hear it but couldn't find it) in the rear OEM header/manifold so the car is apart awaiting arrival of new headers. Oh, well. So attached is a diagram. The bar goes ABOVE the front pipe but BELOW the rear cat/pipe.

If this is happening to you in the front or the rear then you might get a set of these in 6mm or in 3mm.
