Day Three - Never make a bet you can't pay off. Skinny - Work on a Porsche long enough and it can be durn fast! Recapping the results of the previous two days- our showing at Willow moved us from fifth over all to eight, forth in our group, its a fast one. Streets - shorter, more turns, tighter, slower than Willow but exciting just the same. The slower speeds should allow us to compete better where natural driving abilities are favored over years of practice required to develop your nerve on the higher speed tracks. Well, that's my theory and I'm sticking with it :-) Oh yea, the bet, it was with myself, I decided if I didn't turn in the fast lap of the day for our car I'd trim my mustache each day. Going into today I had been off by a second or two each day so I arrived at the track freshly trimmed and looking a little bit like Charlie Chaplain. Game faces on, 10 degrees cooler, new slicks ordered, let's take a good run at them. Greg takes first group - warms up learning the line at 1:45, 1:46. Then trying to chase down Eric in Doug's car I card a 1:33, but he's down at 1:29, good stuff from the NSX crews. I know were making good HP cause we hang with them on the straights, and having corner balanced at 2940 lbs we are probably 300 lbs heavier. Humm, should the killer stereo go, hummmm? Trying to hang with them in turn two I spin, a little dust and back on, but that lap time is toast so I call it and head in, opps did I slow the Porsche down as I headed in? Temps start climbing slowly but a breeze is blowing and it doesn't feel to bad. Mark B. fiddles a bit, we add a water spray to the intercooler radiator for later in the day, not much else to work on. Mark A. takes the second run group, this time he follows Doug out to learn the line, Doug is a class act and is trying to help us however he can. I kinda feel bad about switching our transponders :-) Mark knocks off a couple of 1:34s before the session is called for a spin that puts rocks on the track ( I think there were about 15 on the whole day). Looks like the upper lip hair is safe for now. We're now pretty solidly fixed with three good laps (remember the best three on the day count). We haven't seen much from the Porsche yet, Doug and Wayne are both sub 1:30, Wayne busts a wheel trying harder (he'll get a new one shipped overnight from BBS for tomorrow). We decide to continue and not let up like Pahrump (we only have 100 miles to go tonight). Temps are now close to 90, the track is a bit slipperier, nothing of note, run a few 1:36s in light traffic. In the forth session, Mark heads out with knowledge of one run, he whips off two laps at 1:32 and one at 1:31, darn, get out the scissors! But Team NSX is looking strong! But wait, after freeing the tranny with a crow bar the Porsche (914 with a 911 engine) shows up with a new driver and smokes a 1:25! Doug is in the trailer and on his way to Buttonwillow, we'll review the team standing tomorrow. And finally, a word of thanks to the two NSX members that dropped by to wish us well, glad you liked the graphics , and power :-)
